Why your E-waste needs to be recycled!
Hello Medium Usersđź‘‹
While The usage of electronic equipment may pose many health risks to our body and mental health, another hazard has manifested from its widespread consumption, E-waste.
Only 17.4% of the expected 74.7 metric tonnes of e-waste released globally will be adequately collected by 2030. Out of that amount, we would only be able to recycle 12%. Thus, this e-waste is staying with us. We are Harming nature and Harming ourselves. A significant portion of this E-Waste consists of primary batteries thrown away into landfills to pollute the environment and cause serious health hazards.
Only 11–12% of the total e-waste is recycled.
Thus, many precious metals like gold, silver, copper, and other high-value recoverable materials of $ 57 Billion were dumped or burned instead of being appropriately collected. This e-waste is either sent to landfills where it is left decay-causing pollution & harming the environment and the general population or sold to third world countries instead of proper recycling and extraction.
As more e-waste gets sent to landfills, exposure to environmental toxins will increase, which will result in increased risks of cancer and developmental and neurological disorders.
Improper disposal has led to an increase of 98Metric tonnes of carbon dioxide released into the air.
Neither the consumers nor the stakeholders are adept with the collection and disposal mechanism. To solve the problem of Improper Waste Management, Aloe Ecell has set up a blockchain-enabled collection and recycling mechanism where the e-waste will not only be properly collected but also recycled and upcycled into Aloe Ecell fertilizers where the Aloe Token will play a major role in rewarding the e-waste depositors.
Thus, follow Aloe Token, a crypto network that tackles the issue of e-waste disposal and collection
